The Creator’s Bug

Since I was young, I’ve had the creator’s bug- a demanding, ever-hungy inner voice that won’t be satisfied if my creative needs aren’t met. (I like to picture it as the caterpillar from “A Bug’s Life” movie, but that’s neither here nor there).

Once I recognized and accepted this voice, I embarked on a life-long journey to embrace play, create without bounds, and reject the idea of impossible.

Writing the entire script for the Brykerwoods Elementary 5th grade class opera. Semi-permanent hair color that, unbeknownst to my mother, was anything but “semi”. Entering an adult cake decorating competition at the age of 11. These things are courses i’ve served over time as part of the lifelong meal of creativity.

As an adult, it does get more difficult- But I’ve never stopped searching for “fixes”. For me, it’s about the process as much as the result- the feeling you get digging through a dusty antique mall, or the conversations had with a wise art store owner. I’ve made it a priority in my life to satiate that dang creator’s bug. So far- the bug is winning.
